The first time I had crispy duck fat potatoes was at one of my favorite restaurants in Davidson called Kindred.  And I haven’t looked back since!  They serve them with crab fat mayo!  There is no other way to eat potatoes, in my humble opinion.  I haven’t attempted to make crab fat mayo but I do make the duck fat potatoes often in my air fryer.

Don’t worry, you can also make these in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer.

Why Do I Use Duck Fat?

First, the taste is amazing!  Second, cooking with duck fat is a great way to get a wide variety of healthy fats into your diet.  Why do we want a variety of healthy fats?  Let me get a little nerdy here and share some things I learned at the NTA.  Stay with me here because this is good stuff!

Have you ever heard the phrase, you are what you eat?  Every cell in our body is made of the foods we consume.  If you don’t eat a variety of good quality fats and give our cells the fats they need, they lose the ability to transfer nutrients and waste in and out of the cells.  Our bodies makes cell membranes from the types of fats we consume.  This is why it’s very important to eat a variety of healthy fats! Duck fat is one of those healthy animal fats that we should eat more of and remove those highly processed fats like canola, soybean, vegetable oil and margarine.

You can find duck fat in your grocery store near the olive oil and avocado oil.  This is the one I use.

How to Make Duck Fat Potatoes

This is one of the easiest recipes on my blog.  It’s literally two ingredients!  Potatoes and duck fat, that’s it.

Rinse your potatoes and pat them dry.  You don’t want them to steam in the air fryer or oven, you want them to get crispy.  Cut the potatoes into bite size, 1 inch chunks.  Melt 1 tablespoon of duck fat.  Pour the duck fat over the potatoes and mix well to cover the potatoes.

In the Air Fryer

Put the potatoes into the air fryer and press the french fry setting.  Mine is 380 degrees for 25 minutes.  I toss them a few times to make sure they get crispy all over.

In the Oven

Put the potatoes on a baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.  I toss them a few times to make sure all sides get crispy.

Remove from the air fryer or oven and add salt immediately.  Enjoy as a week night side dish that the whole family will love!
